Thank you. We are happy the hot summer weather has not arrived yet. Flowers still bloom. This time of year is usually 20 degrees F hotter, and flowers wilt.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Phoenix Botanical Garden.

Time

This photo was taken around 9am.

Lighting

Natural light was used. The morning sun was filtered by clouds, making it ideal for macro photography.

Equipment

This photo was taken with my Canon EOS 5D Mk IV and a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro II USM lens.

Inspiration

The flowers at the Botanical Garden always are magnificent. This phot was captured in Spring, when most flowers are at their best. The colors were simply irresistible.

Editing

The photo was cropped in Adobe Lightroom, and minor adjustments were made to shadows, highlights and contrast.

In my camera bag

My Canon EOS 5D Mark IV always has my Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens mounted on it. That is my go-to lens for the majority of my photos. I also carry several lenses: Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, and a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM (which was used for this shot). I try to shoot with natural light all the time, but on those occasions where I need an external light source, I use either a Neewer CN-216 LED panel or a Canon Speedlite 580EX. I have tripods by Slik, 3Pod and Manfrotto.

Feedback

Use natural light whenever possible. Either full or filtered sun can be used, although the photographer must decide which is best to bring out the beauty of the subject flower.
