Behind The Lens

Location

The photo is taken alongside the beneath mentioned small river slightly visible in the left/bottom-left side of the photo. 'Mølleåen, also Mølleå, sometimes translated as the Millstream, is a small river in North Zealand, Denmark, which runs 36 kilometres (22 mi) from the west of Bastrup Sø near Lynge to the Øresund between Taarbæk and Skodsborg.[1] The valley contains several country houses and a series of mills which initiated Denmark's industrial development/Wikipedia'.

Time

The photo is taken 08.55 in the morning...the weather was very wet (it had just rained) and there was still a slight mist in the air at that time. In November 2018 this was approximately 1.5 hours after sunrise.

Lighting

All natural light...no additional lighting used.

Equipment

Nikon D850 and the NIKON AF-S 24-70MM 2,8E ED. I used a tripod for stability.

Inspiration

I was walking this path coming from the other direction and focused mainly on taking some photos of the river running alongside this path. when I came to this end of the path I noticed the broken branch in the top right of the frame...I took a lot (don’t even want to say how many… insanely boring photos of it!) before I finally looked back down the path. I liked the shape of the path between the trees, the colours of the leaves and the slightly misty air...giving the scene a special atmosphere I found interesting.

Editing

Post processing was simply cropping of the photo.

In my camera bag

I carry the Nikon D850, a NIKON NIKKOR AF-S 20MM F/1.8G ED, the NIKON AF-S 24-70MM 2,8E ED and the TAMRON SP 150-600 F:5,6/6,3 DI VC USD NIKON....a pile of Lee ND and Grad filters... and all the other tiny photo-stuff we all carry. I have recently acquired a Nikkor Nikon19mm PC-E (Tilt/Shift) lens which requires a lot of practice to master...so still 'in process' with that lens...actually managed to completely 'destroy' some photos from Seljalandsfoss waterfall on Iceland using it...ever so cleverly forgetting to set all tilt/shift to neutral...NOT the effect I wanted...which is why I have a very nice Iphone shot from that scene in my portfolio here...:O)...learning photography the hard way at times. Part of the fun.

Feedback

Make the required research and preparation to find the subject you wish to photograph and plan the shoot...amazing photos can come out of random and impulsive ideas appearing in a split second...sometimes...the rest is careful planning of what you want to do...and of course..in my experience...to get the needed experience...taking thousands of photos and making all errors possible!..enjoy the travel..:O)...
