Location
This photo was actually taken at a zoo.Time
This was in the late morning.Lighting
This is just natural lighting, no flash.Equipment
Nikon D200. I think this was a 70-200 f/2.8 lens. I used the f/2.8 aperture to try to help hide the fence behind the eagle.Inspiration
I loved the way this eagle was perched. I could have taken the photo at eye level with the eagle, but I really liked the way it looked when I got lower. It make the eagle look more majestic, especially when it looked up and away from me.Editing
I just did some minor sharpness and saturation enhancing. In my camera bag
Usually 2 Nikon bodies, about 3 lenses and one or two speed lights.Feedback
It helps if you know what you want to capture. I knew this was an eagle, the national symbol of America, and wanted it to be majestic, not just another bird shot. So, I knew I had to somehow achieve that. Playing around with angles and apertures allowed me to make the eagle seem higher, more majestic, while helping to hid the fence behind him and really focus on the bird. Knowing what kind of shot I wanted really in the end really helped me work through the set up.
