Behind The Lens

Location

Out in the spring sunshine looking for wildlife to photograph in a local reserve, this Robin was more than happy to pose for shots.

Time

Taking a break from the desk job in the middle of the day. I always carry a camera and having a nature reserve not far away means it's easy to pop out and grab some shots during the lunch break.

Lighting

Robins are a great bird to photograph. Not only do they look good but they're not afraid of people and will often come very close. When gardening, they follow you around seeing what tasty grubs you uncover.

Equipment

I'm a Canon user. Have been for many users. Shot hand held with a 5D MKIV and 100-400L

Inspiration

Just love shooting nature and springtime when the adults are gathering food for their young is a great time to go out and get shots like this.

Editing

No post processing for this other than cropping and sharpening.

In my camera bag

Love my Canon 5D MkIV. Never go anywhere without it. Coupled with either the 70-200L for sport and action or the100-400L for aviation and wildlife, I have pretty much everything covered that I shoot regularly.

Feedback

Robins are easy birds to shoot. Springtime is perfect for shots like this. Find somewhere where there's plenty of insects and just keep vigilant. Don't get too close to the nests though as you don't want to disturb the parents feeding.
