Location
Roque Nublo (Clouded Rock, Rock in the Clouds) is a volcanic rock on the island of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, Spain. It is 67 m (220 ft) tall, and its top is 1,813 m (5,948 ft) above sea level.[1] The Roque Nublo is the third altitude of the island of Gran Canaria, after the Morro de la Agujereada with 1,956 meters,[2] and the Pico de las Nieves with 1,949 meters. It was formed by a volcanic eruption around 4.5 million years ago.(Source: Wikipedia)Time
The photo is taken approximately 1 hour before sunset and half an hour before we descended Roque Nublo.Lighting
The balance was not to over/underexpose and at the same time get the clear silhouette of the people on the cliff.Equipment
My camera is a Nikon D5500 and for this photo I used a Tokina SD 11-20 F2.8 (IF) DX lens. The shot is made handheld.Inspiration
I had taken several photos of the cliff itself with people sitting on it from another angle (see my profile photos)...and was on my way back to the car when I saw this angle and the composition I could get from it.Editing
No post processing (besides slight cropping) was made.In my camera bag
I carry the Nikon D5500 with a standard 18-55mm lens (AF P NIKKOR DX VR) and a 55-300mm zoom lens (AF-S NIKKOR DX). For this photo though I used a Tokina SD 11-20 F2.8 (IF) DX. I also have a HOYA CIR-PL filter for long exposure shots. Normally for these type of shots I would use a Tripod but I did not bring one for this trip.Feedback
Be ready to take photos at all hours in the day, in the evening and early in the morning (in short: at all times!). As the right light, the right scene and the right atmosphere will change and may disappear, but not if you are there to capture the moment for all of us to see and enjoy. With this photo the moment was created by me and I fortunately had the chance to set it up as I wanted.
