Location
This photo was taken at Brooks Falls in Katmai AlaskaTime
The photo was taken during morning hours when it was raining. There were many bears fishing for salmon and this one was putting on a good show on how to peel the skin off a salmon.Lighting
The lighting was very tough and shaded due to the rain and overcast sky but the white water was bright which enabled lower ISO settings. I was fortunate to get the sharpness and detail out of this photo.Equipment
I used a Nikon D750 and Nikon 500mm lens in 2017 during this trip.Inspiration
We traveled to Katmai to see the bears in the falls.. this was an amazing trip and highly recommend the experience. I have hundreds of photos of bears and still have not gone through and posted them all.Editing
Post process is a normal procedure when taken photos with RAW manual settings. The lighting and cropping is the majority of the post edits, some noise removal, color and dehaze to bring out the subject. I tend to not over manipulate the photo and prefer natural enviroment. In my camera bag
I use all Nikon gear for the camera equipment. I recently upgraded to the D850 body. Tripod and mounts are Induro.Feedback
Best advise is to think about your subject and composition, then work your settings accordingly to the movement, lighting, and distance. Pay attention to which focus points to utilize on the subject in relation to the F stop settings (depth of field). Be sure to have your histogram on so it shows your exposure which will allow you to make changes on the fly to better the capture. Enjoy yourself with the beauty of nature!
