My family's dog Wally experienced his first Kentucky snow recently. He was so shocked and pleased with it! It took me ages to get a good photo of him because he was prancing around every which direction.

Location
I took this photo in my big back yard. I live out in the country in the hills and backwoods of Kentucky. My dog, Wally, was born in these woods and lost his parents. We adopted this sweet little guy. We only got one snow in January of 2017 and it was his first experience with snow!Time
I took this photo in the early afternoon when the sun was at its highest.Lighting
The lighting was perfect for snow photos and a dark subject. The sky was overcast by thick grey clouds and the snow reflected wonderfully of our dog’s dark fur.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS Rebel with the 18-55mm lens.Inspiration
There’s nothing like watching an animal experience something for the first time; whether that be a bird learning to fly, a baby deer learning to walk, or in this case, a pup playing in the snow for the first time! His joy and slight confusion at the white stuff, was worth the trouble of capturing!Editing
I did do a little bit of touch up to the lighting to really make Wally stand out in the bright white snow. But it really only needed minimal touch up.In my camera bag
When I’m out and about in the snow, I bring my waterproof bag, both my lenses (18-55mm and my 55-200mm), two battery packs, and three memory cards.Feedback
Sometimes the best photos are unplanned. Dogs are hard to take pictures of sometimes. Don’t focus so much on getting them positioned right, rather, focus on trying to capture their emotion and feelings! The photos are so worth it!!
