Seychelles sunbird (Cinnyris dussumieri)
As the name implies this is a species endemic to Seychelles, but fortunately it is so common it is not threatened.
You will see it on many of the larger islands, and on Bird Island where I shot this picture. On Bird Island you get much closer to them than on Praslin and Mahe, where I found them mostly high in the canopy.
Where there is nectar there is one or many of the fast-paced birds, and here it has just had a few drops of nectar from one of the flowers of the Sea trumpet (Cordia subcordata). The flowers of this species are irresistible to the Seychelles sunbird, and I encountered many squabbles and “ownership” disputes in these trees.
