This photo was shot in beautiful St. Petersburg, FL. Working with Designer Kimberly Hendrix of KHendrix, we came up with the concept to shoot her Spring Lookbook in an old Men's Bathroom. Quite historic, this bathroom is located at the St. Petersburg Shuffleboard Club, which has been a staple in the community since 1928!Time
This was shot at night (see lighting)Lighting
Shot at night for drama, this photo was lit with one off camera strobe. The bare bulb strobe was fired from outside of the bathroom, through the window to create this strong contrast and cast the shadows of the model, and the window frame, along the stalls. Her pose and movement add to this dramatic scene.Equipment
Nikon Full Frame.. I believe this was my D600 at the time. Shot on one of my favorite lenses, the Nikon 35mm f/2. Bare bulb off camera flash from outside.Inspiration
Working with the late, great Kimberly Hendrix... we wanted the fashion to pop... and what better contrast for her beautiful designs than a dirty old men's bathroom!?Editing
With most of my work, I do very minimal post processing. Light skin retouching and color adjustments. In my camera bag
Nikon. Always. Full frame DSLR (currently D810), an F100, some film, and a gang of fixed lenses... faves being the 35mm f/2, 50mm f/1.4 and the 18mm f/2.8.Feedback
Always start with one light. That may be all you need. See how the one light/one modifier looks, add more to taste. Just like salt and pepper... sometimes less is more.
