I shot this flower in the gardens of Chicagolands, Baha'i temple in Wilmette , IllinoisTime
This was shot in the early morning, the sun was flirting with the clouds all morning, giving this photo a soft feel.Lighting
The lighting was fairly soft with a light overcast sky, the flower was in a semi shaded area.Equipment
Shot handheld with a Nikon D750, with a 24-105 f4 lens at ISO100Inspiration
I visit this garden on a regular basis and was watching these flowers as they emerged, I really liked the darkish background, as it made the bloom stand out. I also liked the bokeh I'd achieved in the image.Editing
Very little post processing was done on this photo, just a crop and the standard lens correction in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I have a Lowepro Flipside 300, and usually pack it full. I always carry my Nikon D750, and often carry my D7000 as back-up.I carry my 24-120mm f/4 kit lens, my 105mm micro Nikkor, a 50mm prime ,Nikon speedlight sb 600, 5 batteries for the cameras, dozens of sd cards, and assorted other cleaning and protection pouches. Its pretty heavy but well worth the effort as I can get most shots I desire. The flipside bag is by far the best camera backpack i've owned as it allows me to use it as a waist borne desk in sandy and wet environments.Feedback
I love photographing in gardens, there's always color and shadows. The thing about gardens is they change constantly, I watched this flower grow from a small shoot to a glorious spherical flower, I recommend that you observe the garden, preferably in spring, and seek the new growth, and find unique angles and lighting. Gardens are awash with insects and wildlife and many amazing photos can be achieved in a very short time. Get out to your local garden , walk around and shoot away.
