I took this photograph on a recent trip to Boulder's Beach, Simon's Town, South Africa. These area hosts a natural breeding colony of about 2,200 pairs of the endangered African Penguin. These penguins are monogamous, having a breeding partner for life and nest on beaches between February to August. These penguins were pushed to endangerment due to unregulated egg harvesting and guano scraping in the 20th century, but are now a protected species and their population numbers are on the increase.
