This photo was taken at the site of Edro III shipwreck at Peyia area (Pafos, Cyprus).. I wanted for a long time to visit this place but things would not come my way until this day.Time
This photo was planned to be taken a photo excursion of our local Photo Club at the Latsi - Pafos district (Cyprus), in March of 2016. As I could not devote both days I went with a friend just for the first day and made our own plans for the afternoon part... We planned to be on the site almost an hour before sunset, so as to have enough time to find an appropriate angle of view, compose and wait. For the golden hour.... To our surprise the weather was on our side with clouds that accentuated the colors of the sunset behind the shipwreck! About half an hour after the sunset and after taking a few dozen shots we left contend as we accomplished our goal..Lighting
The sunset's colors were enhanced by the presence of clouds in the horizon.. The clouds formed diagonal lines which I tried to make use of in my composition, so as to further enhance the impact of the image.Equipment
My camera gear on this occasion consisted of a Nikon D600 FX body, a ToKina 12-28mm DX lens (used at 20mm Full frame equivalent), mounted on a Vanguard Altra Pro tripod.. A remote cable release was of-course used, as also a CPL and ND Grad set of filters!Inspiration
I have been longing to take this photo ever since I visited this place, albeit at a non appropriate time of day with my family in 2013... As it is over an hour's drive though from where I leave I have not been able to visit it until this time..Editing
I use only LR for Post processing of images and keep mainly to the basics (reduce highlights, lightened shadows, enhance the whites and the blacks, add a bit of clarity, and contrast if needed). As I always shoot RAW, if WB needs correcting I do that too...In my camera bag
At the time I took this photo, my camera bag was packed with a Nikon D600 and an assortment of lenses and filters, a remote cable release and a Nikon SB-900 flash. My lenses consisted of: Tokina 12-28mm DX, Nikon AF 28mm f2.8D, Sigma 105mm F2.8 OS DG HSM Macro, Sigma 17-35mm F2.8-4 DG HSM, a Samyang 14mm F2.8, a Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f2.8ED, a Nikon AF-S 80-200mm f2.8 and a Nikon TC-20E teleconverter... Recently I have added a set of 100mm Filters by Formatt Hitech (0.9 & 0.9 ND Soft Grad as well as 1.5 & 3.0 NDs)... Since then (June 2019 now), I have upgraded to a Nikon D750 (also having a D610 in between) and have sold several lenses in favor of buying others! My lens suite now consists of: Samyang 14mm F2.8, Nikon AF-S 16-35mm f4 VR, Nikon AF-S 24-70mm f2.8ED, Sigma 105mm F2.8 OS DG HSM Macro, Nikon AF 80-200mm f2.8D, Sigma 150-500mm DG HSM OS.Feedback
My advise to anyone looking to capture a similar image, is: Plan ahead and visit your spot ahead of time... If possible, plan your shoot on a cloudy day!
