This Photo has been one of my personal favourites since it was taken in early spring this year. I was taking a stroll through the financial district in the late afternoon. I find that the best shots are taken in the night and also on a cloudy day,for contrast reasons and I found myself in perfect timing to get this reflective and almost illusionary shot. I've always been able to find myself in the right place at the right time. Some say it's luck...I say it's a subconscious skill, and if I ever find myself in a stuffy office setting again in this lifetime, I'd want to work in the office building within that reflection of another dimension. Sitting in a small cubical, at my work station. Looking at the clock and counting the seconds till 4:30. This has to be part of why I love photography so much... We see things more clearly than most and can share things like that office building in that other dimension that otherwise would go unnoticed. I'm so very appreciative to have been recognized for this one. I feel I've been welcomed with open arms into your online Village , if you will and I truly feel I have become a viewbug shutterbug and I want to say thank you for your insight, kindness and direction. happy shooting to all from behind the lens.Time
It was around home time for the office workers when I looked up and was in marvel over the shear omnipotence of the seemingly endless build in front of me...3 pm...was the gloomy hour I took this, the brightest shot so far in my Viewbug career.Lighting
I have always held the view that between early dusk and the wee hours at sunrise, as well as on gloomy days are some of the most favorable times to get just enough light to create detail in the shot and just the perfect amount of shade to build better depth and mystery in a shot. Also, the gloomy days carry more definition when working to get the best in a reflective shot.Equipment
I used my baby...my Nikon D7000 with a 70 to 110mm nikkor lense for the shot. Always manual of course. I have no clue what automatic is and I believe that's the best way to be unless of course you're literally dangling of something to get your shot and you only have one hand to control the camera...but even then...I like to be challenged. the shot I did free hand without any steading components and I also prefer it that way. Its good to train in that manner I find because you don't always have the option to pause time in a random spur of the moment happening, to set up shop for a shot. I'd rather be off the cuff with it so I'm faster and I always get my shot.Inspiration
I have, for a very long time, marvelled at the super structures that today's architects father into the world. Each better than the last. Architectural photography is in my top 3 favorites to shoot because when you get the right angles, and make the structure's look, become something else, its almost like I get the feeling of playing a part in its upbringing. I wasn't the father, however maybe being an uncle would best describe the gratification I receive for photos like this one. Also,I used to be like those office workers, having to wear the monkey suits and ties, always with my head up in the clouds, looking out at the people and wondering what they were doing...It feels good taking photos while knowing some poor guy is looking out at me, looking in for a change. Finally in control of my own destiny without walls. It felt good, and maybe just maybe I give hope to those poor office workers watching me,that eventually the day will come to an end and they can come out to play aswell,lol...Editing
Im known for making a few subtle upgrades with some shots, however this one I kept completely raw. All factors fell perfectly for this shot and nothing was needed to perfect it. Honest. In my camera bag
I keep only the basics when I'm on a stroll... My D7000, 50 mm for head shots,a 70 to 110mm for small group shots and sculptures, my 300mm lens for depth of field and long shots and my macro tubes for in close shots for birds, small animals and flowers. Also my air puffer cleaner ,my duster pen and some oil blotting papers. that's really all I carry.Feedback
All I can say to someone trying to get an amazing shot is simply this. Aside from the environmental factors I've mentioned to get the best shots you can...the most important thing is to not force it. Don't let your mind guide your eyes to a shot.Let your heart guide you to it. Thats where the passion is in any shot. Let the camera be driven by your heart. Let me know how you do when your heart does the shuttering. Happy shooting and again, thank you for the opportunity to do this blog. I feel more motivated than ever before.
