I took this photo, at a balloon festival, in Shelburne, Vermont.Time
It was a great afternoon for the balloon festival, and I took this at 3:58 P.M. Clear blue sky with solid sun beaming through fabric of the envelope (balloon).Lighting
Our balloon friends occasionally set up a worn-out envelope, at festivals, to allow people to go inside and play. Many times it is cloudy, or very late in the day. The balloon was in a perfect position to allow the sun's rays shine through the fabric at this festival..Equipment
I used a Sony AF DT 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 camera. I used the automatic setting because the scene was fluid, and there were many people around. I only used the camera and hand held it.Inspiration
I was completely inspired by the festival scene with the fantastic lighting, and the children having the time of their lives. I love to capture children playing, and scene is one not usually seen.Editing
I did not use any post processing with this photo. In my camera bag
I currently carry a Sony SLT-A77 with a Sony 3.5-5.6/16-105 lens attached. Lens cap, UV protector, Neutral Density filter, Graduated Neutral Density filter, paper lens cleaners, an extra charged battery with charger, and a Sony 4.5-5.6/75-300 lens which I rarely use.Feedback
If you have the opportunity to attend a balloon festival, you will be immersed in a sea of incredible colors. The multitude of fabrics used for the balloon envelopes are just eye popping. There are many opportunities to get standout shots from the outside of an inflated balloon to shots into the colorful envelop during and after inflation. Photographing the liftoff of many balloons is great, and I recommend that you get in your car and 'chase' the balloons to get photos of surrounding foliage and geography. Autumn shots of balloons can also be incredible with the setting sun.
