Location
This picture was taken in the Dublin, Ohio right after a late afternoon winter snow storm. Once the storm passed, skies cleared before sunset and a winter mist covered the ground. It was a very unusual day and a very mystical setting. I am not a professional photographer, but an extremely enthusiastic one... I have been back to this particular site many times during similar situations but have never seen the same conditions or lighting... just in the right place at the right time, with the right equipment... plus I had my favorite cigar so I was in no hurry!Time
This picture was taken in the late afternoon, right after a winter blizzard of sorts, so the sky didn't quite know what to do with itself and the ground was still somewhat warm causing a really interesting ground mist...Lighting
The lighting was magical... I have never seen it like this in Ohio before, but powerful storms have a way of shaking things up and creating rare opportunities... you just have to be there to witness it... I was lucky enough to be there... Lucky Me!Equipment
At the time I was using a Canon 20D Camera with a Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Lense... I did not have my tripod and did not need a flash... It was a hand held shot.Inspiration
I always try to head out the door (if I have time) anytime there is a significant storm... rain, snow, wind.. you just never know what mother nature will give you... but she generally gives you something if you are patient. I went out, I was patient and I was driving roads nobody else was traveling and guess what... that old mother rewarded me... I love that gal!Editing
I did of course boost the coloring, clarity and some of the darkness levels... but the majority of the shot, including the hazy mystical feeling was just there...In my camera bag
Canon 20D Camera, Canon EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 Lense, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS, Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6, Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, Canon TS-E24mm f/3.5L, Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L USM, Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT, multiple tripods, filters, other accessories... also carry a smaller Canon G-15 camera.Feedback
I really don't know enough to be dangerous... All i can say is buy good equipment, be patient, and go out in the weather and to the places that nobody else wants to go... you are pretty much guaranteed to pick up some images no one else will have.... just have fun... smoke a cigar... and have a very saintly wife!
