Behind The Lens

Location

It happened during the Championship of the Czech Republic in (rhythmic) gymnastics of juniors in the town Olomouc. I accompanied my sister who was couching a team that took part in the championship.

Time

The photo was taken at 13:52 on June 3, 2012.

Lighting

The championship took place in the university sports arena with artificial lighting. No additional lights, of course

Equipment

I took the picture with my Sony A57 and the lens Sony DT 18-55, 3.5-5.6. No other equipment was involved.

Inspiration

Any sport competition is in fact good inspiration. I took plenty of shots that day and this one belonged among the best.

Editing

The photos taken under artificial lighting of a sports arena usually need some post processing and this picture is no exception. The operating system I use is Linux, which implies that my main picture editor is the GIMP. In addition, the Noise Ninja was used to reduce noise a bit as the shot was taken at f5.6, 1/100 and ISO 1250.

In my camera bag

My bag is not very big, which means I just carry the lenses that could be the most useful ones. In a city a wide angle lens is always needed, more particularly the Sony 16-50 is almost always therein. Further, the CZ 50 f1.4 and the old superb Minolta 200 f2.8 is the basic stuff I have in my bag. I use the Sony A77II now.

Feedback

I am not a professional sport photographer, which implies that my opinions and advises should be taken with a pinch of salt. I would say that the most important thing is to be in a good position close to the stage.
