Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Pamukalle, Turkey. It is a place worth visiting.

Time

This was taken at around 4:30 in the evening.

Lighting

The Sun was just a few hours away from setting in the sky. The clouds created the drama in the scene. I found this pool of water on the ground and i knelt down to get the reflection of the sky in the water. To give it a smooth look, the photo was taken at ISO 100 and the shutter speed was set to 1/10th of a second.

Equipment

The camera i used was a Canon 7D with a 24-105 L Lens. This shot is handheld without flash.

Inspiration

The colors, clear day and the sunbursts inspired me to take the photo. I had to look around and chose to take the pool of water as the foreground. so that i have an interesting foreground, middle ground and background.

Editing

Yes, this is a a little saturation and contract was added in post.

In my camera bag

Canon 7D 24-105mm f4 L Lens 50mm f1.8 Lens Speedlight 580 EX II Variable ND filter Giottos Tripod

Feedback

Capturing something like this would be easier in the evenings but the point to keep in mind is that the photo should have a good foreground, middle ground and background. I could have easily zoomed in and taken just the cliff in the middle with the sun burst coming down from the sky behind it, but i guess the pool of water in front with the reflection of the clouds gives it a more pleasing look. I would suggest thinking about the composition and also moving around a little to find the perfect shot. You never know, the perfect shot can be just a step away.
