Location
This photo was taken outside of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, Florence, Italy. Tavarnelle is about 25 km south of the city of Florence. The view is from a 12-century castle that is now used as a hotel.Time
This photo was taken 45 minutes after sunrise at 7:05 am local time. I spent almost an hour capturing this scene from before sunrise until this photograph.Lighting
The lighting came from the natural light.Equipment
This photo was taken by a Canon 5D Mark III and the Canon 24-105mm f/4.0L at 24mm and f/22. Earlier I was using a Joby Gorillapod Focus attached to the window, but this photo was taken handheld.Inspiration
My wife inspired me to take this photo. She is my travel planner, and I enjoy documenting our adventures, travels, and experiences. I knew immediately when I took this photograph that it captured our vacation.Editing
This photograph is a single exposure. I enhanced it using clarity, reduced the highlights, and slightly increased the exposure using Lightroom. I also removed a distracting lens flare in Photoshop. In my camera bag
I use a Canon 5D Mark III and usually carry a Canon 24-105mm f/4.0L and a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L. If architecture is a possibility then I also carry a Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L.Feedback
First, my advice is to keep looking for different compositions even after you think you have found the best one. Once I thought I was finished, I backed up and realized that the window framed the scene perfectly. This was my final shot of this scene. Second, take every opportunity to experience your environment while travelling. I tried the next morning to make another photo of this scene but the sunrise was not as spectacular.
