This was shot mid-afternoon in early May, with the sun on the opposite side of the house.Lighting
Natural sunlight.Equipment
I used my Nikon D3100 with a Nikkor 55-200mm zoom lensInspiration
As the parent of a young cat-loving daughter, I have a lot of opportunities to capture kittens in all their cuteness. The color of the jump rope with those gorgeous baby blue eyes was an irresistible combination.Editing
A little bit of cropping to concentrate the viewer's eye on the kitten's gaze and remove a small amount of background clutter was all this shot needed. In my camera bag
My Nikon D3100, of course, along with my go-to 55-200mm zoom, the kit 18-55mm lens, and a macro lens, just in case. Other accessories include an extra battery and SD cards, a remote and cleaning supplies. In the pocket are maps of local nature sites and a notebook for ideas I get along the way.Feedback
Set up a little play area free from background distractions. Settle yourself down at kitten level, supply them with lots of interesting toys and wait. I like to use continuous shooting mode because in a split second something amazing can cross the lens and I don't want to miss a moment of the action. As you can see from my profile, I get a LOT of adorable feline photos and some pretty funny ones, too. It's a nice way to spend some down time and family time at once.
