A Brazilian native plant and “cousin” to North American Iris species. The fragrant flowers last for only a day but are produced over a long season. After flowering a small plant-let grows at the end of the stem. The weight of the growing plant-let gradually causes the stem to bend downward until it touches the ground. The new plant can then take root in the ground. This unusual spreading habit is the source of the common name “Walking Iris”.
