Behind The Lens
Location
This picture was taken in Grindelwald in the Swiss alps on a perfect powderday in March 2021. The Snowboarder is Gian Simmen, the Halfpipe Olympic Champion from Nagano 1998, who is a good friend of mine.Time
Gian and I went up to Grindelwald-First in the afternoon, because I had to work in the morning. We didn't have too much time, but we found a little valley with some fresh snow and made the best of it.Lighting
We were very lucky with the weather that day. Some sun from behind and clouds at exactly the right place for this shot.Equipment
I shot with my Sony A7RIII and the 24-70 2.8 GM lens. This shot was taken at 24mm at F13 (to get that star from the sun) and 1/2000.Inspiration
Gian and I try to spend time outdoors regularely if possible. In summer, we go mountainbiking, in winter we try to be in the mountains. But it's very hard to catch perfect days like this one because we both have families and we work.Editing
In this shot I tried to darken the shadows and the sky to increase the contrast to the snow and the clouds. All post-processing was made in Lightroom. In my camera bag
I shot with Sony cameras and lenses. Out in the snow it's always important not to take too much weight. A good and waterproof backpack is required to protect your equipment.Feedback
Just go out and try! Good actionshots need a lot of experience. Find the perfect angle and talk to the rider. Choose a fast shutter speed and make several pictures. Shooting against the sun makes great contrasts but be careful with lensflares.
