Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in my front yard one foggy morning. I am self taught and enjoy finding and capturing moments like these wherever I am.

Time

I stepped out of the little schoolhouse beside our home where we homeschool our three children. The foggy morning mixing with the woodsmoke from the neighbors down the road was extra thick that morning. I saw the beams of light from the sun coming through the fog as it was just beginning to rise over the mountain in the distance. I stepped further into the field that is my front yard to see and caught the light just glowing around the poplar tree.

Lighting

I didn’t do much to add to the beauty of nature except finding the perfect viewpoint behind the tree. The sun through the fog and smoke did the rest!

Equipment

This was a quick shot from my iPhone 8 Plus 12 mp camera. As I was just coming from teaching for a quick break, I didn’t have my camera with me at the time. Not bad for a phone picture.

Editing

I rarely do much post processing other than tweaking the brightness or contrast to make the image look true to life.

In my camera bag

My bag is packed with my Nikon D5300 and a small selection of lenses as I am a beginner/novice and pretty much make it up as I go along. I have been learning more along the way by viewing tutorials and just purchased a photography class to learn better techniques.

Feedback

Be ready to catch the shot at any moment. A great picture can be fleeting when dealing with nature, but always be looking around. Keep your eyes open and observing, be adventurous, step out of your usual path and you might catch a glimpse you’ve never seen before.
