Behind The Lens

Location

Spring Valley Nature Center

Time

Mid morning

Lighting

I waited until the clouds started to break and for the light to hit the branch, as long as the bird stayed still I knew I would get my shot.

Equipment

Nikon D5100, Tamron 70-300mm, handheld

Inspiration

I made sure to decrease dof so the bird would standout but not too much so it was still in focus. I really liked the bokeh effect on the trees in the background.

Editing

I cleaned up some noise and tweaked the shadows a bit in Lightroom because I had a ND filter on.

In my camera bag

Nikon D5100 DSLR, Nikon 18-140mm, Nikon 55mm, Tamron 70-300mm, lens filters, batteries, handgrip, flash. Sigma 500mm, tripod, and binoculars for wildlife

Feedback

Patience is key. Get as close as possible so the bird is still in focus. Always check your camera settings!
