My friend and I had talked about a couple themes, halloween, pin up and I thought we would be doing a mash up of both in a foresty area but with the outfit she had on, we shifted focus to an old gas station we had shot at before and coincidentally a couple weeks ago I had bought a couple of cans of coke from a candy store that seemed to match what we had going on.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Steveston/Richmond, British Columbia Canada. It was shot by a mechanic shop that had a couple of non-functional vintage gas pumps.

Time

I think it would have been a summer day around 2pm.

Lighting

It was a bright sunny day if I recall.

Equipment

I shot this with my Sony A6500 with my Zeiss Batis 25mm f2 at f2 (iso 100 and 1/2500 shutter speed). I added some fill light and I think it could have been my Godox AD200 w/ a 40" reflective umbrella with diffusion material.

Inspiration

I was aware of the vintage gas pumps for a number of years and I always wanted to try a pin-up type shoot there. I also had a quick impromptu shoot at a candy store the week or 2 before and they had these nice coke cans there so I got a couple with a pin-up shoot in mind. It an older looking town but it's mechanic's garage so unfortunately there were modern cars parked on either side so didn't get quite the vibe we wanted.

Editing

I'm post processing challenged so I did simple stuff mostly in Adobe Camera Raw and used some filters in the old free version of Nik Collection.

In my camera bag

I shoot with gear from almost all the camera manufacturers. Normally I have my m43 gear (a mix of Panasonic and OM System and Sigma stuff) and one or more of my Godox flashes if I need to deal with the harsh sun. Sometimes I'll have some LED lights from Aputure or Rotolight if I know I'll not have to deal with harsh sun.

Feedback

Have someone like my friend ariella, yann who's good with styling, I rely on my subjects a lot in my collaborations.
