Behind The Lens

Location

I shot this particular photo in my home a couple of weeks after I moved into my new place. I had been arranging things in my room and I was decorating in accordance to a nautical theme. I finished arranging everything and ended up leaving the house to relax a bit and take some photos and when I got back and flipped the lights on I saw a fantastic opportunity. So, I pulled out my camera and rest is history.

Time

This photo was shot on the 19th of September at 2:49 PM. This was the last photo I shot that day and I absolutely loved the way it turned out. I feel a little lucky and thankful that I decided to get my camera back out to capture this shot.

Lighting

When I took this shot, I knew that I wanted the final image to have a dark, moody, nautical feel to it so I could capture the feeling of how my room was decorated. I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome.

Equipment

This photo was captured on my Fujifilm X-T4 with a 50 mm lens. I had just purchased this camera so I didn't have too much equipment for it.

Inspiration

The nautical theme that I had decided to go with for my room decorations completely inspired this photo for me. The old fashioned light and the little glass jar of seashells fit so well together that I just had to get the capture.

Editing

I did end up tweaking the image slightly. I threw a filter on the original to make the light appear whiter. I then darkened the image so it would appear to have a darker, more moody feel to it.

In my camera bag

I generally keep my bag pretty light since I bring it with me to class everyday. I always have my camera strapped to my shoulder with a 50 mm lens and I carry a 18-55 mm lens and a recently purchased MCEX-16 Fujifilm macro extension tube in my bag. I also have a portable hard drive for easy to access image storage/transfer as well. I do try to bring a cleaning kit with me when I can just in case. I never leave home without my trusty Peak Design camera strap and my GorillaPod.

Feedback

My favorite form of photography is macro. I love the effects and details that can be achieved with this type of photography. I'm always shooting up close and personal with the things I take photos of before I try any other approach. This is exactly what I did with this image. Play around with angles and how light touches objects. It's like my professor said, "Photography is art, and light is your medium."
