Location
The kitten was lounging on the bed with me in my apartment and stared curiously at me while I snapped the picture.Time
I honestly don't remember, but the room was blacked out with only my LED room lights on so it doesn't really make a difference either way I don't thinkLighting
The room was blacked out and I had my LED smart room lights on 3300K at full. I also had my flash at ????K with a -2.25 flash exposure compensation if I remember correctly. So, not a lot to note.Equipment
I used my Canon EOS 90D with a Canon 100mm prime macro lens. The flash used was the integrated one on the camera. That's it.Inspiration
The kitten is adorable, but also, I just really wanted a high detail picture of his eyes, because I work in an eye clinic and it just seemed fun. This was the result of getting him used to the idea of a large camera pointed in his direction.Editing
I did some on Lightroom. My kitten is actually a bit more muted in color, but I like the saturated pop against the grey of my sheets so that's kind of my style with him at the moment. In my camera bag
I have lots of bags that I switch lenses and accessories between depending on what I'm doing. I generally try to have at least a 50mm and 100mm prime and either my 25-55mm zoom (zoom lengths are approximate because I don't have them memorized) or my 50-200mm zoom. I always keep batteries, a charger, air puffer, and lens paper in the bag no matter what though.Feedback
I think this worked because my cat is comfortable with me. I've been conditioning him to having lenses pointed at him starting with my phone and eventually the DSLR. Other cats I try to image are either spooked or curious or vibrating. I think building report with the cat is important and letting it get it's curiosity out before you try to take a picture like this.
