With its reddish purple flowers in the large racemes, the loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria, is a conspicuous species in wet grasslands lying in areas where freshwater levels vary. From June you can see the regular flowers in the spike-shaped inflorescences. The flowers are arranged in a whorl around the stem. The beautiful flowering plants also stand out in wet river grasslands and swampy brushwoods.
