After the castle came into the hands of the counts Stolberg-Wernigerode, it has been renovated several times over the centuries; extensions in the late Gothic (architecture) and renovations in the Renaissance style . During the Thirty Years' War ( 1618 - 1648 ) the castle was heavily destroyed. In the following period, the castle was rebuilt in Baroque style .
