Reindeer are perfectly adapted to the arctic climate. With their hooves, sometimes with their antlers, they scrape the snow aside to get at mosses and lichens. Thanks to their dense winter fur, they can do this even at temperatures as low as -50°C. The well-perfused nose warms the breathing air to a pleasant 38°C. Reindeer noses are therefore bright red on thermal imaging :-).
