Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in the Kgalagadi Transfrontierpark, South Africa @ Polentswa Waterhole.

Time

This photo was taken early morning, on 29 NOV 2021, around 05:50h!

Lighting

The natural light in Africa @ sunset/sunrise is breathtaking.

Equipment

The shot was taken with a Canon 5D MarkIV and a Canon EF 100-400 LSII. Since I was on the way with my car, the Cam was positioned on a bean bag.

Inspiration

I traveling very often to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa/Botswana, mostly stay @ the unfenced 'wild' campsites on Botswana Side. The Park is well knowed for its big cats, specially for its big, black maned lions. Its a Park were you can get very close to the Animals. I know that in the northern part of the park Jakkals hunting for Doves and other birds. The waterhole where I took this picture was very close to my 'wild' campsite Polentswa, so I was lucky enough to be very very early 'in Position'. I feel very privileged to witness a scene like this.

Editing

The original raw-file I edited in Lightroom. Not to much, just a little bit in color, contrast and luminosity.

In my camera bag

CAMS: Canon 5D MarkIV and Sony FX3 (because I also take some Videoshots in SloMotion). LENSES: Canon 100-400mm, Canon 16-35mm, Sigma 150-600 Sport, Sigma 24-70mm. Tripod, Beanbags and a view Filters.

Feedback

For Wildlife Photography its important that you take your time, because nothing happens at the push of a button! The best scenes enfold while waiting mostly at the waterholes. Try to postition yourself at the best spot for the perfect light, mainly during sunrise or sunset. And it always takes a portion of luck. Try it :-)
