Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken on the north shore of the river Forth at limekilns village in Fife Scotland.

Time

Sunrise is normally around 8am at winter time this far north we can get some really dramatic sunrises due to the low trajectory of the sun during the winter months

Lighting

I normally try and predict the weather but it’s really pot luck if there is less cloud cover this time of year . We can suck in the weather from Norway and from the highlands, the Forth valley can have a very unique weather spells due to the Ochils to the north of Dunfermline and the pentland hills to the south of Edinburgh

Equipment

I normally have my canon 80D with my 15-125mm lens but also use my iPhone 12pro for generic Instagram shots.

Inspiration

This village is less than 2 miles from my house. And has broomhall estate owned by lord Elgin situated in between Limekilns and Charlestown villages . I love the relaxing atmosphere and the harbour setting and the limekilns which has a very rustic and industrial feel.

Editing

I tend to use photoshop if I need to play with lighting and shadows but this was a one off shot ‘right place right time .

In my camera bag

On a walk about I’ll carry a small bag and maybe a 50mm prime and a telephoto lens either a 200 or 300 mm lens

Feedback

Try and get out early, the majority of my walks are at the weekend and I always have my dog Finn for company . He does a great ‘ stand still ‘ so I get really steady shots.
