Location
This photo was taken in my home studio with a simple mottled background.Time
Mid morning but this is generally irrelevant for this photo as I was using strobes. Having said that, pick a non sleepy time of day to photograph your pets.Lighting
4 Strobes balanced to produce stronger lighting on the left because here in the western world we read from left to right so tend to look at photos from left to right.Equipment
Canon 5D SR and Canon Ef 85mm f 1.2. This is my favourite kit for use in studios. Sometimes I switch to the 50mm f1.2 if I am doing full body shots.Inspiration
It was just that classic cocked head listening look that Vincent would do when he thought he recognised a word like "Biscuit". I think every dog owner recognises that look. Very sweet.Editing
Not much. Just balanced the exposure a little and added a vignette. In my camera bag
Canon 5D SR, Canon 5D mk4, range of Canon lenses. The main zoom I have is the 24-105 f4 and mostly the rest are prime lenses. I prefer wide aperture prime lenses.Feedback
Just get to know your pet or in this case my daughter's dog and plan the shoot in advance rather than try it ad hoc. If you don't plan it you will never get that image in your head that you want.
