Behind The Lens

Location

Whilst on holiday in L'Isle Jourdain, France I saw a bed of some amazing Kniphofia under the viaduct and couldn't resist taking a few photos.

Time

It was about 3 pm

Lighting

It was a sunny but not too bright day so no need to make any alterations for light settings

Equipment

Hand held Panasonic FZ200 camera

Inspiration

I love colour, texture and my favourite genre is abstract. The kniphofia fits the bill totally. I got as close to the flower as possible to capture the colours and texture of the petals.

Editing

None

In my camera bag

I always have the FZ200 to grab quickly if necessary but have now upgraded to a Sony A7rII full frame camera with a 85-200mm lens attached. It just takes a while to get the bag open to access the new camera. I also have a few colour filters but have not had many chances to use these yet. I have a small lightweight tripod and also a larger tripod to use depending upon what type of stability and location is necessary.

Feedback

I love the versatility of the FZ200 bridge camera as it has a huge focal length and is great as a grab camera if you stumble on that instance when you need to be quick to capture something instantly. The quality of the photos are great and is a brilliant first camera for a beginner to gain confidence. I am still getting used to the full frame camera, Sony A7rII, but am very happy with the results so far. Unlike most full frame cameras its smaller size and lighter weight makes it easy to use. Great for the smaller handed person and your arms don't ache if you are taking multiple shots when hand held.
