Location
This was taken locally in my community. We're lucky to have a large network of conservation areas.Time
I went out mid day since I was after intense autumn colors of the trees.Lighting
It's always easier to get intense color with the sun behind you. Obviously that would be a problem for portraits since you'd get squinty eyes. But trees? They LOVE IT!Equipment
I used the Pentax K-3 Mark III with the Pentax DA 18-135 WR. It was shot handheld right at the edge of the shore line.Inspiration
I had seen many recent beautiful photos of the fall colors across the internet and realized "Hey!!! I haven't gone out this year to get any of these". So it had to get done.Editing
I didn't do much post processing, just a bit of time curve, clarity, vibrance and contrast. I didn't think this would work with a strong HDR effect and I wanted to preserve the natural look of the scene. In my camera bag
When I'm doing landscapes I go with a plan. That means, I may take my tripod or I may leave it. But, the items that are always in my bag for landscapes are my Pentax K-3 Mark III, Sigma 17-70 F/2.8-4 DC Macro HSM lens, Pentax DA 18-135 WR lens and a cleaning kit.Feedback
For images like this, you want to try different angles, and pay very close attention to how the lighting changes. Be ready. One cloud in the sky can change everything if it goes in front of the sun. So watch the sky to know when the opportunity will present itself.
