During my recent visit to the Central Park Zoo, I spent a good deal of time at the "Tropic Zone: The Rainforest" exhibit photographing and admiring the diverse collection of birds and other animals. Much to my surprise and delight, this Plush-Crested Jay bird approached me really closely, staring at the zoom lens on my camera with extreme curiosity. This unexpected close encounter allowed me to capture some fun portraits of this beautiful Jay bird.
Plush-crested jays are found in north and east Bolivia, central and south Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and northern Argentina. The plush-crested Jay frequents forest and wooded areas, including the rainforest.
Plush-crested jays have dark blue-black plumaged with a cream-yellow breast and bright blue upper parts. Their eyes are yellow and their bill, feet and legs are black.
