The Three Soldiers (also known as The Three Servicemen) is a bronze statue by Frederick Hart. It was unveiled on Veterans Day, November 11, 1984. It, along with the Vietnam Women’s Memorial, is part of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall commemorating the Vietnam War. The 3 memorials are on the National Mall in Washington DC. I have pictures of all 3 memorials here nearby this one in my gallery. The status is based on 7 actual young men who served in Vietnam.
It’s placed on the Washington DC mall and is situated so that the three soldiers seem to be looking at the Vietnam Wall and the names of their fallen comrades in arms. The design of The Three Soldiers was copyrighted by Hart and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. Reproductions were sold on many pieces of memorabilia, including t-shirts, keychains, and snowglobes. The sculptor donated his share of the profits to a non-profit which provides name rubbings to families of veterans. Just being there made my heart hurt.
