There was no light - it was pitch black. No street lights only a head torch to stop me falling over on obstacles.Equipment
Sony A7Riii with Sony Vario-Tessar T* 16-35mm F4 ZA OSS lens. Velbon carbon fibre tripod with Manfrotto 410 Junior Geared Head. Need to be very familiar with buttons on the equipment as have to work in the dark.Inspiration
My son said he was going so I went. Something I’ve been trying to do for a long time but where we live it’s not dark enough. Here it was pitch black. He gave me guidance and suggested settings.Editing
Had to do lots of post-processing as there was minimal light in the sky, even with a 15sec exposure at iso 20000. Found several YouTube videos and this helped me a lot to recover elements in the photo to get the image you can see.In my camera bag
Depending on what I’m shooting with my cameras and who with, I will take my Sony A7Riii with its lenses or my Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark iii with its lenses. Also I always carry a monopod, cleaning cloths, spare cards, remote cable, head torch and a snack.Feedback
Have a go but first research what exposures work best for still Milky Way shots or alternatively star trails. Exposures are completely different for these two. If you can find a Workshop then that will help novices greatly. Watch YouTube videos to help with post-processing. Well worth it but wrap up warm!
