Behind The Lens
Location
Wyming Brook, South Yorkshire, UKTime
9am in a dull and drizzly winter's morning in NovemberLighting
The weather was very damp and there was very heavy cloud. This was ideal conditions to retreat into the woodland and take photos of the brook. The lighting was ideal for taking this type of photos.Equipment
Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark ii with an Olympus M.Zuiko 12-100mm f4 PRO lens. Velbon Carbon Fibre Tripod with a Manfrotto Geared Head. Also a pair of Muckboots (Wellington Boots). NiSi 6 stop Neutral Density filter, NiSi Polarising Filter with filter holder etc.Inspiration
The composition stood out with the flowing water, autumn leaves and pine needles. The ND filter slowed the exposure to allow blurring of the water. The angle I took the photo in the prevailing conditions, brought out the blackness of the water.Editing
Didn't even have to crop this photo (although there are some others of mine on my ViewBug which I cropped 1:1) . The colour rendition straight out of the Olympus OM-D EM1 range of cameras are excellent in all conditions so it is very easy to get things right in the camera. I took over a dozen photos at different parts of the location and the colour rendition brought out the autumn colours perfectly and, more importantly, consistently. It was difficult to select my personal favourites. I am not very good at using computer software to post-process so tend not to do it.In my camera bag

Don't put the camera away when the weather is dull and rainy. Find some woodland with a stream. Autumn colours are perfect when conditions are so poor.
