This photo was taken at my home in the garden.Time
I was in the garden taking pictures of the foxes and roxy was with me and she just looked up and gave me that beautiful smile and I wanted to capture her beautiful face as the sun was shining on her fur, was mid day and sun was shining. That was lovely day.Lighting
It was all natural lighting, which I find is best for animals, especially black furry ones. It brings out the texture. The sun was shining on the her face and I could see the image in my mind, and took the shot. In editing I enhanced the lightning just to give her more defined features, as she has black shinny fur.Equipment

My roxy is my best friend and she has the most amazing smile with those big eyes. I capture any moments we have together, as her personality just shines through her smile. I've always been more of a in the moment photographer. I see something and I see the created image in my mind. So i know that's the shot. Roxy amazing she been with me through all the good times and bad. And to capture her beautiful soul in one shot, is a treasured memory for me and so can show the world the beauty of my roxy.Editing
During the editing process I blacked out background as I find this is a great way to enhance dogs features especially dark furred. Due to the natural light it was just the case of enhancing it. I adjusted the texture, structure and sharpness. Then layer by layer with slight touch ups. Gradually working with the image and getting those little details to stand out.In my camera bag

As a in the moment photography, I find taking multiple pictures. With black dogs you want to get the details and textures of the fur so it doesn't just blend and you lose details. Concentrate on highlighting but get that balance. I always smooth the texture first, then apply sharpening and structure slowly and little by little to not over do it and end up with harsh detailed image. You want the balance between soft yet textured with black dogs to enhance their features. I am a lover of the black background as it just enhances the object in the photo.. But i always do a light shade around the object first then build up layer by layer a darker shade moving outwards this gives it a more of a smoother feel around the image in the photo instead of harsh bold look. Layer by layer and less is more.
