From the early spring of 2019, expert and hard work has been done to restore the Coopsmolen in Zelhem. This special mill is now proudly running again, and will be an asset to the municipality and region.
Before the hull of the mill came into scaffolding at the beginning of April 2019, the two-hundred-year-old barges inside the mill were dismantled. Unfortunately, the stern floor turned out to be irreparable, but the centuries-old tub was skillfully restored by the mill makers and then placed back on the previously placed cartridges and the newly laid stern floor.
The metamorphosis is particularly visible on the outside of the mill. The holes in the walls and the broken bricks were replaced by traditionally freshly baked bricks to size and color. The beautifully restored jointing of the hull is the icing on the cake.
In the mill maker's workshop, the new roof was shaped and hard work was done on the escape (the blades). A new shaft was also cast and the blacksmith made the hinges and locks in the workshop in an original way.
Around the turn of the year 2019-2020, the beams, which form part of the tail, were sawed on the Agneta sawmill in Ruurlo. Here too, a traditional way of working was used. At the same time, the contractor made the new windows, doors and shutters (based on a model of time-worn and half-decayed examples from the mill). In January 2020, the old millstones were taken to the stonemason to be made ready for use again. The parts of the hood made in the workshop were reassembled at the mill during the same period.
