Pink Giant Balsam

A plant species that is advancing further and further into the landscape and can easily become man-sized is the Giant Balsam, Impatiens glandulifera. It stands out for its translucent stems, which have a fleshy appearance, and the large symmetrical pink to purple flowers. The species can be found mainly as a companion of streams and rivers and in wet grasslands. The seed, which is thrown by the plant and thus dispersed, is also easily dragged through the landscape by humans and animals, further increasing the spread of the species.
