Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken in a parking lot in Lexington, Kentucky. One of those "I bet this will look cool" moments.Time
Near midnightLighting
The red light on her face is actually from the LED on the lot's toll arm. I knew that since the street lights were white, I would be able to make a really cool contrasting blue/red look in post to really bring out that cinematic lookEquipment
All I had on me was my Canon 6D and, I think, a cheap plastic 50mm 1.8 prime lens.Inspiration
We were walking around town looking for interesting places that could look cyberpunkish and we came across this parking lot. The arm of the toll booth was so bright and looked futuristic.Editing
Yes, I added letterboxing, cooled off the street lights behind her, added film grain, and a couple of the orange bokeh in the back were really offputting red tail lights so those had to be corrected. In my camera bag
Aside from my camera, the only things I have are my 50mm prime lens, 2 batteries, a charger, a speedlight, and a cleaning kit.Feedback
Im a self-taught photographer. Ive spent 4 years learning the ins and outs of photography, how to get the "film look", etc and honestly, this one is the one Im most proud of because it was a happy accident. I have no idea how it turned out the way it did. Even the oval bokeh looks similar to an anamorphic lens, which I definitely didnt have. The only advice I can give is dont be afraid to go a little crazy in post. You dont have to get it right in camera. Dont be afraid to experiment.
