Between 1824 and 1826, the baron, as owner of Sonsbeek, had the Belvédère built. This observation tower was 24 meters high and offers a view over the city and the surrounding area.
The tower stands on top of a 70 meter high hill in the park.
In the 1950s, the tower was raised by 5.60 meters to rise above the tops of the increasingly tall trees.
