Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in my front yard about an hour after moonrise.

Time

It was early evening just after moonrise.

Lighting

Nothing note worthy to mention here. It's shooting the moon so the darker the place you're shooting from the better.

Equipment

This was shot using a then new lens 400mm ~ 800mm set up on a Langley tripod. Shot this with my Nikon D3500.

Inspiration

I always liked shooting the moon. The pictures are so variable depending on the cycle it is in. This time it was to test a new lens and I am more than happy with it. My eyes are not what they used to be so my focus is just a bit off but I'm happy with it none the less.

Editing

The only post processing I usually do is cropping and signing. This shot was left unsigned but it was cropped to appear more dramatic.

In my camera bag

I carry a ton of equipment in my bag so lets just talk about what I carry. As a rule I shoot with my Tamron 55 ~ 200mm zoom. I would say 90% of my shots are done with this lens. I am currently using the Nikon D3500. A camera that I sometimes really dislike. I would love to have a D40 again. I carry a 50mm NIKKOR Micro lens if I'm out in the field. Sometimes you just want to get face to fdace with your subject.

Feedback

Just be patient with the shot. Always take more than one. Always use a tripod to avoid shaking, and finally, take a chair. Shooting at an angle can be very tiresome when you have to keep bent over while trying to focus. Also, you may want to capture early in the moon cycle...meaning just after moonrise so you can limit your azimuth.
