Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Zion National park, Utah. The trials to the Emerald Pond area.

Time

This was in the late morning around 10 am.

Lighting

This was all natures glory, the sun was still coming in from the east and it was a beautifully clear day.

Equipment

Shot with a Nikon D40 with a 50-200mm lens fully extended. Iso 200 and I believe f/13.

Inspiration

I am predominantly a nature photographer. I made the trip to Zion with the sole idea of getting some great shots of nature. This was in October and the last day before the park closed for the winter. I've always enjoyed shooting in the wild and it doesn't get much more wild that Zion National Park.

Editing

This shot has been slightly cropped and a watermark added, other than that, this is what the camera captured.

In my camera bag

I generally carry my 50-200mm as well as my 18-50mm and my one good prime 40mm Micro for those really close shots and some spectacular landscapes. I also carry a Pro Optics 2x Teleconverter.

Feedback

Always be ready to take the next shot. Never let an opportunity slip by you. When shooting in nature, your camera should always be in your hand at the ready. Keep you eyes open and be aware of everything in your surroundings, the small as well as the large. Always take more than one shot. I recommend at least a 16 GB memory card. On an average shooting day, I will take over 800 shots. With my D40, I can get away with an 8GB card. The newer cameras need a bigger card t accommodate the larger pixel rating. One more thing.....don't blink. You may just miss your chance.
