The Mallard is a wild water bird, commonly found in parks and ponds. The male, the drake, can be recognized by the striking green head and white neck band. It is also the only duck species to have curled tail feathers. The female has a more camouflaged mostly brown plumage. During the winter, couples are formed, which can sometimes be violent; often the birds try to drown each other in order to eliminate rivals. Many ducks in parks are mixtures of mallards with all kinds of domestic ducks.
