Imaginary garden visible only in the recesses of the mind (and in this image). Our garden took on a Claud Monet-like impressionism as I was playing with my camera controls and focus adjustments. The resulting mysterous garden is intriguing and will draw you into the fantasy as you explore it. Enjoy!!!

Behind The Lens

Location

I intentionally captured this surreal, ethereal photo of our backyard garden.

Time

It was 3PM on an overcast day.

Lighting

The even, natural lighting was perfect for my experimental camera manipulation shots.

Equipment

I was using my Nikon D300 and 18-200 zoom lens. No flash was necessary since the entire garden was well lit with soft natural lighting.

Inspiration

I wanted to try some in-camera abstract photography. I did so by manually manipulating the lens zoom and slightly moving the camera horizontally as I took the image at a 0.4 second shutter speed to capture motion and blur and also multiple exposures, by zooming the lens as the image was captured. The results were rather pleasing and quite varied. This was my favorite image of the many I took.

Editing

Very little post processing was done, other than contrast, saturation and minor cropping. I was very pleased with this image.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Nikon D300 and D500 cameras and a variety of lenses, filters and extra batteries and memory cards in my bag.

Feedback

Don't be afraid to experiment with your camera settings and other manipulations to try and produce unusual images.
