Location
I was on my grandmother's farm when a family member showed me this praying mantis. I had them hold it in their hand and used the white house as a back drop. I made sure to shoot to get a nice blurred professional looking back drop.Time
This occurred about mid-day.Lighting
The lighting was all mid-day sun! Hardly any clouds to speak of.Equipment
At the time, I had a Pentax K200D with a Tamron 70-300mm macro/telephoto combo lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
I didn't have any particular inspiration behind this specific photo. However, I've always been interested in the little details. This particular praying mantis had a lot of unique expressions that could be personified very successfully when using macro photography.Editing
Only post processing I did was in photoshop raw. Just minor tweaks to lighting, contrast, and color.In my camera bag
I now have a Pentax K-7, pentax sms 17-50mm, Tamron 70-300mm, Gorilla-pod, tripod, uv filters, polarizers, and an old yashica C medium format film camera.Feedback
Most important thing is to always be aware of your surroundings and not interrupt anything that may be happening around you. Shoot for low ISO when ever possible. When shooting macro, always be aware of how much depth of field you want and what is in your background.
