This photo was taken in Springfield Missouri. I am a self taught photographer and ever since my first flight with my DJI drone I was completely reinvigorated to get back out and take photos again. Getting into drone photography really took me back to the early days of when I first really got into photography. I also feel that it's important to say that this photo is obviously very special to me, being that it's my first ViewBug first place contest winner.Time
I am definitely very proud of this photo. I had taken my wife to a doctor's appointment, her appointment was around two in the afternoon. Thankfully I had my drone with me in my truck on this particular day.Lighting
Right as I was about to launch, I took a look around the area just to make sure I was in a safe place to fly and noticed a hospital with a med flight helicopter sitting on the roof. This photo was taken before I became a licensed drone pilot but I thought as long as I stayed low, didn't fly long and paid close attention to my surroundings I would be just fine. And thankfully I was able to fly about fifteen minutes and get several really good images. This photo was obviously taken during winter, evident by the snow on the ground, and to me the lighting in winter is typically pretty poor, especially when it's snowing. Winter, to be honest is typically not my favorite time to take photos and the main reason for that is the lighting and just the fact that everything always looks like dead and bland, unlike during the summer when the things I tend to photograph, which is mostly nature, are much more vibrant and colorful.Equipment
For this photo I used my dji Mavic Mini with no filters. This shot was taken just a few months before I upgraded to the DJI Mavic air 2. But any dji drone has the ability to capture stunning images.Inspiration
I wouldn't say anything inspired me really, I just really have an obsession with photography, especially drone photography. So that being said, I shoot photos any chance I get and I almost always have either my camera or drone, or sometimes both in my truck with me.Editing
I am still currently in the process of teaching myself photoshop and lightroom, so I don't really do a whole lot of post-processing on my images. I did however, use a preset photoshop filter on this image, only to darken the gray concrete of the road and the whiteness of the snow.In my camera bag
In my bag I carry my trusty Canon EOS 7D, Canon 24-70mm f/4L IS, Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS, Tamron SP 45mm f/1.8 VC, sometimes I carry my Pentax K1000, my DJI Mavic Air 2, a Manfrotto tripod, shutter release and remote, various ND filters, variable ND filters, a couple rolls of film, extra batteries, chargers, flashlight and two lenseballs.Feedback
In my opinion it's very important to get a good drone. I am definitely a huge fan of dji and I would have to admit I'm probably very partial to them. Drone photography is definitely very different from using a regular camera, but with enough patience and practice it can definitely be a lot of fun and give you a chance to see the world completely different. And the last thing I would add is it's definitely worth it to work towards and earn your commercial drone license, if you live in the US anyway, I'm not sure about the regulations/laws in other countries. But in my opinion anyway, gaining all the knowledge from earning my part 107 commercial drone license is really useful.
