Location
This shot was taken on a highway over pass in Missouri. I am a self taught photographer and every single time I set out to take photos it's a learning experience for me and I truly enjoy photography more than any other hobby I have ever had in the past.Time
I am very proud of this image. I was still pretty new to shooting light trail photos and this was only my second or third real attempt at this type of photography. But I had seen this particular overpass many times driving by the location and each time I told my wife that I wanted to go there and take some long exposure, light trail photos of the cars driving down the highway. So one night on a hot summer evening my wife and I were driving around looking for a place to take this type of photo and I remembered this spot, so we parked at the nearest parking lot and set off on foot to the bridge.Lighting
As I stated before on one of the previous questions, I'm not only a self taught photographer, but this was only my second or third real attempt at taking this type of image and for that reason this image is very special to me. That being said I would be lying if I said that shooting any type of photography at night is easy by any means, especially when you have cars speeding by and you are trying to create a light trail photo of their lights. But I love how it turned out and the many different colors from the vehicle lights gave the image a nice touch in my opinion.Equipment
Canon 7d, 24-70mm f/4 L IS lens, Manfrotto tripod and remote shutter release.Inspiration
The inspiration for this photo was pretty simple, I was working on teaching myself how to take vehicle light trail photos and I had seen photos online in the past where the photographer incorporated a fence into the image and it was something I wanted to try and learn.Editing
I don't do much post processing to any of my photos, the only thing I do is brighten up the already existing colors and exposure using photo-shop preset filters. Post-processing is something I definitely want to learn more about and plan to teach myself in the future.In my camera bag
In my bag I carry my trusty Canon EOS 7D, two Pentax K100's (one for color and one for black and white film), DJI Mavic Mini Drone, Canon 24-70mm f/4L IS, Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS, Canon 17-85mm f/4 IS, Tamron SP 45mm f/1.8 VC, a Manfrotto tripod, shutter release with remote, various ND filters, variable ND filters, extra batteries, chargers, flashlight and two lenseballs.Feedback
My advice if you are teaching yourself the art of photography and want to learn how to take photos of light trails of any kind would be to first invest in a good tripod and a remote shutter release. Secondly I would say to watch as many videos, read as much as possible about this type of photography and even talk to other photographers. Online sites like this one have an abundance of very highly skilled photographers that would love to share their knowledge. And lastly just get out and shoot as much as you possibly can, and most importantly don't give up if you don't get it at first. To me persistence is key in learning photography, and don't forget to have fun with it.
